#8 IN THE PERIODIC TABLE
It has been 3 weeks since I have posted. Much has happened that has been well covered like change fees, capacity changes, low fares and frequent flyer miles being used to attract demand and Boeing is a story that keeps on giving.
#8 in the periodic table is oxygen (O2). O2 for airlines is capital to fly through what will likely be a long, cold winter . O2 for employees is a continued paycheck.
All along this industry's flight path geopolitical events have caused flight plans to change. Recent events were the price of oil and a shortage of pilots. Jet fuel is historically one of the more expensive oil products.
Now jet fuel is being turned into a blending component for typically much cheaper shipping fuel. Now there are too many pilots for the size of the industry to be sure.
Yesterday, Sens Roger Wickers (R-Miss) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) introduced the Air Carrier Worker Support Extension Act of 2020. Honestly though, is there near enough O2 in Washington to consider such a bill given the political will and capital that will need to be expended on replacing RBG?
There are conflicting views as to whether more stimulus (O2) is even needed. The next view will come soon enough when we ask whether we have too many airlines?
