The US comprises 4.3% of the world's population; 24.7% of known coronavirus cases; and 25.1% of deaths by coronavirus.
The top 10 states in order of known coronavirus cases: NY, CA, NJ, IL, TX, MA, FL, PA, MI and GA. All are home to at least one major airline hub. These 10 states account for 61.2% of coronavirus cases and 56% of 2019 passenger traffic.
In the last 2 weeks, the states with largest increases in daily coronavirus cases are: CA, TX, FL, AZ, NC, GA, SC, AL, TN and IL. These 10 states account for 49.6% of 2019 passenger traffic.
Today, Delta said it likely would not add any more capacity for the remainder of the year after it adds 1,000 flights in August. Hard to build a network with a virus running rampant in traffic and revenue rich states. We are about to get locked out of Europe.
Texas just went flaps down. Disney is delaying opening. The IMF changed its 2020 GDP forecast for the US from -5.9% to -8.0%. And slowed its 2021 growth. Deutsche Bank AG's Peter Hooper, said Wednesday that “If this virus continues to get worse, consumer spending is not going anywhere down the road.”
